A useful transport indicator should help someone decide what to do next. Begin with the operational question, then define a measure that can answer it consistently.
Start with a decision
Does dispatch need to identify missions that require attention? Does fleet management need to understand why a vehicle is unavailable? Does a customer need evidence of delivery? Each question points to a different view of the operation.
Agree on the definition
For an on-time delivery measure, define the agreed delivery window, the event that counts as delivery and the treatment of cancellations. For costs, specify which charges are included and keep currencies clear. Consistency matters more than a crowded dashboard.
Keep the source close
A summary becomes more useful when the team can open the underlying mission, stop, document or incident. Missing or stale information should remain visible rather than being treated as a zero.
Give exceptions an owner
A report explains what happened. A connected alert workflow can help the team follow what happens next. Identify who reviews the exception, what action is relevant and how the outcome is recorded.
